1.Choose three places to visit and find out the one way fare to get there for different kinds of transport.

(1)find out 是常用的动词短语,意为“指经(研究、计算或探询)后获知;得知”。例如:
  Please find out when/where the train starts.

  The scientists are trying to find out if the drugs have any effect.

(1)graduate from college是一个固定短语,意思是“大学毕业”,一般不说成graduate from university,也不加冠词,因为加了冠词就是特指某所学校了。请对比:
  I graduated from middle school in 1980, and in 1984, I graduated from college.
  我1980年中学毕业,1984年大学毕业。
  I graduated from the middle school in 1980, and in 1984, I graduated from the university.
  我1980年从那所学校(特指,可能前面提到过)毕业,1984年又从那所大学(特指,可能提及过)毕业。
(2)finally adv. 最后;(一系列事件的)最后一个 例如:
  After several days hard work, we finally succeeded.
  经过几天的艰苦工作,最后我们成功了。
  First, I'm young. Second, I'm healthy. And finally, I'm confident.
   第一,我年轻;第二,我健康;第三呢,我自信。
辨析
  at last 这个短语和finally很近似,但它尤指在等待了很长时间之后,事情才终于发生,让人觉得有点不容易。另外,at last也不能表示事件发生的顺序。请对比:
  I'm so pleased that you've managed to get a job at last.
  我很高兴,你终于设法找了个工作。
  He finally managed to get a job.
  最后,他设法找了个工作。

3.It was my sister who first had the idea to cycle along the Mekong River from where it begins to where it ends.

(1)It is (was)...that...是一个强调句型。如果被强调的部分是人,that 也可以写成who,就像本句中的情况一样。再例如:
  It is the monitor that (who) has got the scholarship for this term.

  It was the old photos in the book that aroused my interest to the great leader.
  正是书里的旧照片引起了我对这位伟人的兴趣。
(2)动词不定式短语to cycle along...to where it ends. 在本句中作定语修饰名词the idea。和分词一样,不定式短语也可以作定语。例如:
  The plan to build a new bridge has been made.
  建一座新桥的计划已经定了下来。
(3) from...to...这样一个结构连接的是两个句子where it begins 和where it ends,因此这两个介词起的是连词的作用。其实这个结构更多的是连接两个词或短语。例如:
  She went from house to house/place to place asking about her child.
  她挨门挨户/从一个地方到另一个地方打听她孩子的消息。

(2)to persuade sb into doing sth 劝说某人干某事 例如:

(3)to persuade sb of sth说服某人相信某事 例如:
  The teacher persuaded the mother of her child's talents.

  The police persuaded us that the man we charged was innocent.

注:insist that...意思为“坚决要求;坚决主张”时,其后面所接的宾语从句一般用虚拟语气,即should+动词原形,而should常常可以省略;当它表示“坚持;坚持认为”的意思时,后接的宾语从句仍用陈述语气。例如:
  I insist that you (should) see a doctor. 我主张你应该看医生。
  I insist that it was an accident. 我坚持认为那是意外事件。
(2)insist on doing sth 坚持(一直)做某事 例如:
  She will insist on getting up early and playing her radio aloud.
  她总是一大早起来就把收音机的音量开的很大。
  He insist on my taking immediate action.
   他坚决要求让我采取立即行动。

(1)proper adj. 该词类似于suitable; fitting 或appropriate。意思是“适当的;恰当的;合适的”。例如:
  He said something proper for the occasion. 他说了一些适合时宜的话。
  properly adv.in a proper manner适当地;恰当地 例如:
  If you can drive your car properly, it would be able to serve you longer.
  如果驾驶得当,你的车就能多用些时间。
(2)way 在此指“方式;方法;行动方针”,相当于method或plan。
  the best/right/wrong/important/proper...way to do sth/of doing sth 最好的/正确的/错误的/重要的/合适的……做某事的方法 例如:
  Do it in your own way if you don't like my way.
  如果不喜欢我的方式,就用你自己的方式来做吧。

7....; my sister doesn't care about details. ……;我姐姐是不会考虑细节的。
  care about是一个动词短语,意思是“忧虑;关心;惦记”。例如:
  Do you care about your family? 你挂念你的家人吗?
  He always cares about what's happening in the world.
  他总是关心世界上发生的事情。
辨析
  care for/to do: be willing or agree (to do sth); wish or like (to do sth); take care of 愿意或同意做某事;希望或喜欢做某事;照顾。例如:
  Would you care for a cup of coffee? 你想要杯咖啡吗?
  Would you care to go to the movie with me?你想出去走走吗?
  Who will care for your child when you are out? 你外出时谁来照顾你的孩子?

8.She gave me a determined look—the kind that said she wouldn't change her mind.

(1)that said she wouldn't change her mind是一个定语从句,修饰kind; 该定语从句里的she wouldn't change her mind是一个宾语从句,作said的宾语。

  He will determine how it is to be done. 他会决定这件事情的做法。
  They've determined a date for a meeting. 他们已经确定了会议的日期。
(3) determined adj. 有决心的;意志坚定的 例如:
  a determined fighter/look/attitude坚定的战士/神情/态度
常用短语:be determined to do sth 决心做某事 例如:
  She is determined to pass the examination. 她下决心通过这次考试。
(4) change one's mind 改变决定或意见 例如:
  He changed his mind to please his mother.
  为了让妈妈高兴,他改变了自己的主意。

9.Once she made up her mind, nothing can change it.
  她一旦下定决心,什么也别想让她改变主意。

(1)once 在此是连词,意思是“一旦……”,相当于as soon as。再例如:

(2)make up one's mind 下定决心;打定主意 该短语相当于be determined to do sth 。
  I've made up my mind to get good grades this term.
  =I'm determined to get good grades this term. 我这学期决心拿到好成绩。

10.Finally, I had to give in. 最后我只好让步了。
  give in是动词短语,有两个常用意义:
(1) yield屈服;让步 例如:
  She is a brave player, and she never gives in.
  她是个勇敢的选手,从不屈服。
  He always gives in to his wife and does whatever she tells him to do.
  他总是屈从于妻子,让他干什么他就干什么。
(2)turn in; hand in交上 例如:
  Give in your exercise books on time. 准时交上你们的练习本。

11.I kept asking her, "When are we leaving and when are we coming back?"

(1)keep doing sth 继续(不断地)做某事;一直(不停地)干某事 如:

  Sorry for having kept you waiting. 对不起,让你久等了。
(2)where are we leaving? 和where are we coming back? 在句中是现在进行时的特殊用法,即表示将来时间的用法。

(1)record 该词作名词时,意为“记录;唱片”;而作动词用时,意思是“写下;记录下来;录制”。例如:

  She often records music from radio.
