1．方向的表达
        英语和汉语在某些方向的表达上正好相反。例如：东西南北（north and south, east and west）、东南（southeast）、西南（southwest）、东北（northeast）、西北（northwest）等。不过，英、汉语在“上”（up）和“下”（down）的表达上却有许多巧合之处，如故事中的sit down（坐下）。类似的情况还有很多，比如：北上是up to the north，南下为down to the south；照英国人的习惯，往北开的火车叫上行车（up train），往南开的车叫下行车（down train）；至北方是go up north，到南方是go down south；河下游称down the river，河上游叫up the river；上城里说up to town，下乡去却只说to the country。
2．地名的写法
        在英语地名中，一般专有名词组成的地名前不加the，如北海公园、北京动物园前都不加the：Beihai Park, Beijing Zoo；而由普通名词组成的地名前要加the：the City Museum, the Fox Cinema。此外，不论哪种地名都要大写首字母。
